About the program

Good candidates have the ability to:

  • Be genuinely empathetic with others. We work with all populations, you must be appreciative of many perspectives, and provide care without judgement.

  • Communicate well in spoken language, body language, and written form.

  • Calmly handle stressful situations and abrupt sensory stimulus.

  • Work 12-hour shifts which include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Learn to safely operate complex equipment.

application process

Applications are NOT currently open. Follow us here or social media (links at bottom of the page) to hear about future internship opportunities. Steps to be considered are:

  1. Apply online.

  2. Attend your scheduled interview (during normal business hours on weekdays).

  3. Interns are eligible to apply for our EMT Apprenticeship Program (full time employment).

Hired candidates receive onboarding, CPR, VEFR, and driver training.  The internship then has additional weeks of riding ambulance shifts with our field training officers or other preceptors to gain experience and evaluate EMS as a career.

Interns typically work 24-40 hours a week. None of the training time may be missed. The schedule will be roughly:

  • Week 1 - classroom & online training Mon - Fri, usually 9A-4P

  • Weeks 2-4 - classroom training for 1-2 days, 1-2 shifts on the ambulance

  • Weeks 5-8 - classroom training for 1 day, up to 2 shifts on the ambulance

Toward the conclusion of the internship, candidates will have the opportunity to take the EMS Entrance Assessment and apply for an EMT Apprentice position.

other frequently asked questions:

Is this different than EMT Apprenticeship?

Yes. EMT Apprenticeship is a full-time, permanent position with benefits. EMT Apprentices work ~30-40 hours a week and have a graduated wage structure as they meet certain objectives. EMS internship is temporary = only during the internship, no benefits.

Can I negotiate the salary?

No, the wage structure is set and the same for all the interns.

I applied for a position before, do I need to submit a new application?

Yes, an application and resume are required, even if you applied for another position before.

Is the training schedule flexible?

No. The class schedule is set and inflexible. Maybe for ride along experiences, EMS Interns may have some flexibility in shifts.
